The detail of the columns, coffered ceilings, and marble wainscot is more articulated as one moves through the ordinance rooms, culminating in the celestial room. They will begin on Friday, Oct. 27 of this year, and will continue through Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, excluding Sundays and Thanksgiving Day. Woodwork is painted, and wall coverings are subtle, allowing for the attention to be on the temple work and worship taking place. In February 2010, the Church announced remodel plans for the Ogden Utah Temple, with the extreme exterior makeover resulting in a “temple classical” design and appearance. It closed April 2, 2011, nearly 40 years after its opening, for an extensive renovation lasting three and a half years before its Sept. 21, 2014, rededication. A little more than 50 years ago, the near-identical Ogden and Provo temples were dedicated — on Jan. 18, 1972, and Feb. 9, 1972, respectively. The two appeared nearly identical with modernist, contemporary designs of a single spire rising from a drum sporting Gothic-like arch designs.

The photos were accompanied by a three-minute video offering additional looks inside and out of the temple. Also, the Lindon Utah Temple has been under construction since its April 23, 2022, groundbreaking and will likely be completed and dedicated before the Provo Utah Temple reconstruction is finished. A temple for Orem was one of eight locations announced on Oct. 5, 2019, by President Nelson during the Saturday evening women’s session of general conference.

To expedite and economize construction, the two were built under the same basic plan. The interior layout — six ordinance rooms encircling a center celestial room — allowed instruction in various languages in a single room, with a new instruction session able to start every 20 minutes. That design remains one of the Church’s most efficient for temples. By design, the Orem Utah Temple is unique to its location; however, the images in the art glass and cherry blossom design element pay homage to the history of the site and the culture of the surrounding area.

The temple will be dedicated on January 21, 2024, in two sessions. A three-story building, the Orem Utah Temple includes four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry. The dedication of the temple also marks the closure of the Provo Utah Temple. The railings in the baptismal font are decorative metal and etched glass, also inspired by the cherry tree. The carpet carving is similar to the stone floor, with a diamond pattern and circle accents. Corner elements feature various flowers and cherry branches with blossoms, leaves and cherries wrapped around a bead-and-reel border. The carpets come in a range of green and gold colors to create an abstract floral atmosphere. The doors are bronze colored and the windows taupe hued with art glass. The Pedras Salgadas granite is cut and fabricated by Transgranitos, located in Portugal.

The ceilings are gypsum board, with various millwork and decorative paint accents featuring the cherry tree and nearby wetlands. The light fixtures are a transitional cylindrical shape and include motifs inspired by the cherry tree. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 9,950 square feet.

Similar to the exterior, the interior is simple, with natural materials. The design and finishes complement the ordinances and the significant patron areas. The use of marble wainscots and wood columns is common throughout the temple.

The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to all units in the Orem Utah Temple district. Additional details regarding the temple dedication will be announced at a future date. The public open house is from Friday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Dec. 16, excluding Sundays and Thanksgiving Day.
